After a traumatic incident during his internship, young medical student James Hayman (Namir Smallwood) transfers to a rural hospital for a fresh start. Noticing that James is struggling and having difficulty connecting with his patients, Dr. Harrison (stage and film veteran Michael Potts) suggests he take a course focused on bedside manners and fostering deeper relationships with his patients. Demons from James’ past begin to catch up with him when he is preoccupied with the case of a young asthmatic patient (Sidney Flanigan, NEVER SOMETIMES ALWAYS) with mysterious symptoms. His grip on reality begins to loosen as his disturbing nightmares, anxiety-fueled speculations, and physical injuries collide with the harsh realities of the medical world. Director Alex Thompson assembles a strong ensemble of veteran character actors in this sequel to SAINT FRANCES — and its predecessor, THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT — in this humanistic and unconventional vision of the genre.
